Words that inspired me

One of the challenges of dealing with pain is keeping a positive attitude. I personally appreciated the encouragement one of my nurses provided to me during one of those difficult moments. She shared with me her love for her work as a pain management nurse. Her sentiments are captured by the following quote she related to me:

“We must all die. But that I can save him from days of torture, that is what I feel as my great and ever new privilege. Pain is a more terrible Lord of mankind than even death itself.”
—Albert Schweitzer

It taught me something about the level of commitment shown by my health care team. It made my day a little brighter and helped me appreciate the level of commitment to easing my pain and that of others.
